Floating Down the South Fork of the Crow River

Zack decided that his "Rosie" needed to try to swim like his real Rosie does. So today we visited the waterfall in Watertown MN and let Rosie "ride the waves."  There was a bet going on in our our house on whether or not she would survive the waterfall.  What is your vote??  You have to watch the video to see :)

He's hoping to find her downstream someday :)  Such a goofball!

Floating on Water--Day 19

The boys took on this challenge really well, me not so much.  They sat at the table for hours and hours fidgeting and fussing trying to figure out what would work (much less they worked together)!!!

Ben created a "Cat Boat." Not the best picture, but I'm letting them learn photography through this :)

I haven't quite figured this one out yet.  I'm thinking the multi-colored space is the turtle shell and toothpick legs.

Tea for Two (or three)

What can you make using just tea (or the tea bags themselves).  I guess I was amazed.  We were having fun getting messy AND creative together.

Ben's kitty....he didn't want to get dirty.

Zack's turtle, made from dried tea leaves.  (He even took the picture)

Tea flavored cupcakes....not thinking so!!!

Inspired by H2O

We had a pretty simple job today "use water as our medium or inspiration."

Ben went outside because it was beautiful outside...and played with his water gun. I am impressed what kind of control he got (and it didn't involve aim towards Zack)

I aimed for rain clouds with a HUGE rain drop frosting ....the boys looked at it like I was crazy.
(Sorry I didn't get it flipped)

Ambidextrous

Our goal was to work with a medium that we enjoy, but to use our "wrong" hand.  So in all of our cases....our left hands.  Both boys drew in pencil, but I.....

Please note, the tail is to the top this time :)

Yep, I worked in frosting (had to decorate Easter cupcakes anyway)

and then I accidentally stuck my finger right in it....ooops!

Collections

Our goal was to create using what we "collect."

Zack created this "sea turtle" out of his sea shells =0

Ben said that only collects books. That's my books worm!

Personally, I have an amazing stash of sprinkles....hmmm, wonder why?!?!?

Paper (with no scissors or glue) Day 3

I don't think that Ben has ever created anything without the help of glue, tape, scissors...you know all of those kid essentials that make a mess!  This however was one of his easiest tasks so far, he even did this before we "started."
Ben entitled this "Ziggy begging"  I thought....Prairie dog :)

I went for construction paper and bleach.  who can resist playing with bleach??

Yep, already finding myself falling behind on this.  I am LOVING spending time with the boys and thinking outside of the box, but man downloading the pictures off my camera....that's where I get lost!

Favorite Animals--Day 2

Day two sent us on an easy task.  Figure out our favorite animal and use it as our inspiration.....easier said than done!
Meet Ben's inspiration....Ziggy.  He is the laziest, craziest, sweetest  cat I have ever met.  Oh, I forgot fattest!

Ben decided to draw Zig's.  He used colored pencils and even convinced the monster to sit at the kitchen table and model :)

Zack was out and about on day 2 (oh the life of an 8 year old!)  So he wanted to share his favorite turtles that he  has made.  He made prints one day when having a sleepover at Grandma's house.

Hmmm....it seems that my butterfly wants to sit on it's side.  I guess he had too much sugar!
